Welcome to Hooked on Walking and our walking holidays in Spain. This particular hiking vacation in Spain is in the Andalusia region. We have graded this walking holiday as a level 1-2 walking tour. Apart from 5 wonderful walks you will have the chance to spend time in Granada and visit the historic city, old town and Alhambra Palace. This tour is available as a self guided walking tour. You will be based in Alhama de Granada an ancient Moorish settlement situated half way between Granada and Malaga in the Poniente Granadino region of Granada. Surrounded by picturesque mountains and lakes, and built on the edge of a huge gorge, Alhama has many traditional bars and restaurants and is the perfect base for your walking holiday.

Day 1 Arrive to Alhama de Granada Arrive to Malaga or Granada airports where you will be met and transferred to Alhama de Granada to your hotel. Terry our Representative shall talk through the weeks walks and plan the transfer schedule.
Day 2 Walk of the Angels. 4.8 miles 7 km , walking time 2.5-3 hours This is a great walk to introduce you to the town, gorge and surrounding countryside of Alhama de Granada. You will visit the towns ramparts and walk along the famous gorge with its cave dwellings. You will pass a little chapel ‘Ermita de los Angeles’ where there are always fresh flowers and candles lit daily in the chapel. Soon you will reach ‘El Ventorro’ a friendly watering hole which also has great food and an ‘Arab bath house’ attached. You will return will wonderful views across the gorge and Alhama de Granada
Day 3 Las Viñas 5 miles 8km 2.5-3 hours A lovely and steady two and a half to three hour walk around the reservoir called ‘Embalse de los Bermejales and Las Viñas. The walk starts ‘El Ventorro’ where you shall walk around the lake nearby. First you will have a short transfer there or around 5 minutes. There are great views over the water and out to the mountains of the Sierra Tejeda beyond.
Day 4 Rest day Today you can decide to relax in Alhama , speak to Terry and maybe take a further walk or maybe rent a bike and cycle around the wonderful lanes of the region.
Day 5 Las Lomas-route of Mohemed Ibn Batuta. 5 miles 8 km 3-3.5 hours Mohemed Ibn Batuta was a great Muslim traveller and writer between 1304 to 1374. First a short transfer to the start of your walk. Today’s walk is a little harder but with superb views over to Alhama and in the distance the Sierra Nevada Mountains. There is some climbing today ( around 200-300m ) but with plenty of rests to break up the climb it should not be too difficult.
Day 6 Granada Today you shall be taken to Granada for the day to visit the old town and Alhambra Palace. A meeting time will be arrange to pick you up for your return back to your hotel.
Day 7 Pork and Herbs. 5.8 miles 9.25km 3-3.5 hours Today you will have a short transfer to the walk start location just outside Alhama de Granada. This is fantastic walk with stunning views over the Sierra Tejeda from the ‘Parque Natural’ of Alhama de Granada.
Day 8 Departure We shall transfer you to Malaga or Granada airports in time for your chosen flights. Accommodation: Nice Spanish hotel or Guest house
Difficulty: Level 1-2 as days are not long.
We book tickets to the Alhambra Palace and you pay for this locally.
